Little Goat Radio

Brian--siempre en la memoria

GO TO MUSIC:

Music | Us & Friends (jackdamafoster.wixsite.com)

Hi.  My name is Jack.

I'm behind, I know . . . I just discovered Spotify.

Many years ago, I thoroughly enjoyed co-hosting radio shows at a local college radio station. I decided it could be fun to create playlists on occasion, as if it were a radio station of my youth--hence this.  Also, many of our projects are designed to supplement English as a second language; music is a natural way to become exposed to varieties of English . . . plus, it's an excuse for me to waste time on this.

Typically, around half the songs on each playlist are randomly selected from the music I have on my computer, i.e., my old cd collection that hasn't been updated much since my college days, with the notable exceptions of music added by my son, daughter, and my love, Dama. The remaining tracks on each playlist constitute active selections. Genres like "Viking Metal" and bands like "H.I.M" are my brother Brian's influence.

This process should yield diverse playlists--although, admittedly, The Beatles and Green Day (or their respective members) will likely find themselves on every playlist.  My biggest regret is that I can't play my father's music as I did on college radio (as it is not on Spotify).  Also, a number of artists would have appeared on playlists but are currently unavailable on Spotify.  I'm very glad to see Neil Young available on Spotify now; Neil is definately within my top five of all time.

I believe you need a Spotify account to listen to the lists; it is free and easy to set up--even I could do it.  Coming from someone who is slow to adapt to electronic change (my small off-the-grid house in Puerto Rico contains somewhere around 4,000 books), I have to admit that Spotify is pretty incredible.

Part of what I love about music is the privilege of listening to the life experiences and perspectives (often different than my own) that, to some degree, find expression in music.  As I grow older, I find more and more benefit in listening to others and their stories.

A note to parents: some material contains explicit content--most doesn't, some contains little, rare exceptions do contain significant amounts.

Thanks, and I hope this brings some benefit to someone.

It is all just for fun.
