Price

$250

Duration

14 group classes (August -- December) + One-on-one sessions (January -- February)

About the Course

Description

This course primarily focuses on creative writing within the context of short stories. We will engage in a generalized writing process as we work toward publishing an anthology of our collective best works. Along the way, we will consider diverse works from various authors as well as historical and literary contexts as we explore different styles and genres. Our hard work will result in a public presentation of our published anthology (May 2025) at the monthly literary series Danzas con Palabras.

Some secondary goals of the course include:

  • Exposure to the English language--While native English speakers are welcome to enroll, this course is designed for those for whom English is a second language. Instruction will be in English; our stories will be published in English; and many of the suggested readings will be in English. Naturally, we will have the opportunity to explore English grammar and usage in the context of our stories.

  • Exposure to Microsoft Word--Basic word processing skills will be developed to compose and format our stories utilizing Microsoft Word. (A personal computer is not required.)

  • Exposure to Short Stories as Literature--As mentioned, we will read a diverse variety of short stories--considering historical, cultural, and literary contexts and their impact on literature and culture.
